RM10.7k, 22 Days, 10 Countries in Europe — How I Did It Solo!
Yes, you heard that right! And it includes flights, accommodation, transportation, meals and miscellaneous expenses.
If the thought of exploring Europe within this budget has ever crossed your mind — and if you, yes YOU, have always wanted to do it solo — this might just be your sign. There’s something magical about travelling without a checklist, without rigid plans and without the pressure of “seeing it all.”
For 22 days, I wandered through 10 countries in Europe solo, from the grand streets of Vienna and the magnificent Plitvice Lakes National Park to the war-torn history of Sarajevo and the historic corners of Prizren, Kosovo — all for RM10.7K (approximately €2,164). I went during Autumn in 2025 and the currency was RM4.91 = €1
And yes, it’s completely doable with a mix of hostels, Airbnbs, cosy single rooms, public buses and trains.
I didn’t follow every travel guide. I skipped some of the so-called “must-see” spots because, for me, travel is more about feeling the place, connecting with locals and letting the journey unfold naturally. In fact, I secured my return flight first, followed by my first accommodation in Vienna. After that, things were pretty much spontaneous. I booked most of my accommodation and transportation as I went along.
Okay, I don’t recommend you follow my exact style — especially because availability can be limited depending on the season, and some hotels or accommodations may be fully booked. But I wanted to experience the freedom of flexibility. It was my way of living by my motto: Live life interestingly.
It might not be your cup of tea, and that’s perfectly fine.
Some days, I moved quickly, taking trains and buses from one city to another. Other days, I lingered in cafés, watched the streets go by, reflected on life while sitting among ancient castles and fortresses, hiked during sunset, listened to stories from locals, or simply stayed present and felt grateful for the peaceful pockets of nature scattered across the Balkans. This blog post isn’t about ticking countries off a map. It’s about real solo travel — finding your way, learning something new every day, blending in with the locals, embracing the messy moments, dealing with unexpected surprises and creating memories that are unforgettable and utterly rewarding.
And what a joy it was to finally compile a proper spreadsheet!
I went through my WISE expense report and, for the first time, could see exactly where my money went. As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t have a solid itinerary before embarking on this journey. At first, I was terrified — yes, sometimes I really was. I was travelling solo, with minimal planning, and had booked my flight only three weeks before departure. But I quickly realised that spontaneity often led me to some of the most memorable experiences.
I’m a strong believer that “The world is my classroom.” I want to explore the unbeaten path as though it has been waiting for my presence.
Not only does travel expand my curiosity, but it also allows me to discover unexpected things about the world — and about myself.
I’ve broken down this journey to share the cities I visited, how I got around, what I spent, and the little moments that made this trip feel like a story rather than an itinerary.
The first thing I secured was my multi-city flight ticket: Kuala Lumpur → Vienna, Austria, and Tirana, Albania → Kuala Lumpur.
Why Vienna? Because I had always wanted to visit this beautiful city and Austria has always held a special place in my heart. There’s just something about this country that keeps calling me back — its grand architecture, beautiful landscapes, rich history and that unmistakable European charm.
From there, I planned to slowly make my way south, crossing cities and countries along the way, eventually reaching Albania, where I would end my journey before flying back to Kuala Lumpur.
And that's exactly what I did.
